  4. The Citizen's Companion - the only regularly published magazine for those interested in civilian life of the Civil War era. Politics, art, religion, home life, clothing and fashion, literature, medicine -these topics and more combined to create the "citizen" of the 1860s.

  7. The Hardcracker Handbook by Cal Kinzer.
